Growing up, I went to a division one school and loved it. I want to teach in a larger school district so that I can not only teach my passion for history and sociology, but also become a coach and help run different clubs. As a future educator I believe that all students have the ability to successfully engage in class and think critically about the world. My teaching philosophy has been influenced by constructivist ideas of both Lev Vygotsky and Jean Piaget where I believe that direct and indirect instruction are both essential to a student's learning. A goal I have for my future classroom is to help every student gain the necessary skills to succeed in life by providing a liberal education where they will engage in collaborative group work, discuss their ideas, learn about other's views, and be able to jigsaw their ideas together. Technology today is essential in classrooms, it is important that teachers are comfortable with the new rising technology. In the article "Adopting a Digital Disruptor Mindset to Transform Education" J. Robinson discusses the importance of becoming a "digital disruptor." Opposite of a "technology adaptor," a digital disruptor is a teacher who abandons outdated curriculum and imagines new ways of doing things by seeing the unlimited potential of technology. What I also found interesting was Silvia Tolisano's article on the biggest mistakes that are made when teachers integrate technology in the classroom. Tolisano points out that technology should NOT be used as a substitute for an analog activity, used as an add-on, reward, for entertainment, or a time filler, used as a separate subject area, used as a $1000 pencil initiative, and used as a solution to motivate and engage students. Most of our future students will have jobs that are not even invented yet so it is important that teachers keep updated with the constant changes in technology and learn how to incorporate it in a meaningful way that will help our students to become successful once entering the workforce.

Throughout the course I am learning so many new ways in which I can incorporate technology into my classroom! I found the QR codes awesome if I would teach in a high school setting, and learning how to create brochures and newsletters will be helpful someday when I am a teacher. I see these activities as more high school level, however. I know that in my clinical classroom, these assignments would be way too advanced. My classroom has a SMART board in the room so I am planning on using it a lot. I have already created a powerpoint and embedded videos into it. I also plan on using it for review games. I noticed that my cooperating teacher has a webpage that she lists different learning objects on. Learning about the different types of learning objects will be helpful when creating a page for my students someday to practice concepts and learn more interesting material on the topic. I also really liked the screen-o-matic and screencasts portion of our class. I think these tools will be really helpful if I have students do online assignments or if I decide to post directions on a future webpage for an assignment.
Entry #3:
Throughout this semester I have increased my knowledge of how to incorporate technology into the classroom. Before this class I wasn't sure how to have students use technology other than creating powerpoints, posters, or watching videos. Through this class I have learned beneficial ways to engage my students in an environment that supports comprehension through technology. They can use these different tools such as audacity for audiopodcasts, screen-o-matic for screencasts, or imovie to create videos. I also learned different ways in which students can incorporate their cell phones by using QR codes or different apps that can be used to use a phone for a "clicker-like" activity. I also found out that I can take students on a virtual fieldtrip without having to leave the classroom. I have demonstrated through the standards below that both the students and I as the teacher can use technology appropriately in the classroom.
ISTE Teacher Standard -- I am able to do this
Examples of how Standard has been met
1. Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity.
2. Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments.
I have demonstrated how to design digital age learning experiences by creating a 1 minute audio podcast of Christopher Columbus and the Age of Exploration.

4. Promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility.
In my E-safety page I have demonstrated my knowledge of digital learning by finding beneficial lessons for my students on internet safety, copyright, and how to use technology appropriately. Teaching students these lessons will help them in their academic and future careers.

5. Engage in professional growth and leadership
I have demonstrated professional growth and leadership through reflections that I have done on each page of my wiki about the new resources and materials that I have learned to incorporate into my classroom. This page specifically is a great reflection of my growth throughout the semester.

ISTE Student Standar
ds -- I have planned for this
Examples of how Standard has been met
1. Creativity and innovation.
Students will show creativity and innovation when creating newsletters or three-fold brochures. This demonstrates their comprehension of the material and their fluency in technology.

2. Communication and collaboration.
Students would have the opportunity to communicate and collaborate with professionals and guest speakers through technology using skype field trips or virtual tours.

4. Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making.
Students will demonstrate critical thinking when creating projects using technology. Here they will create posters, powerpoint presentations, inforgraphics, and word clouds to show their comprehension and knowledge of the material.

5. Digital citizenship.
Students will demonstrate their knowledge of digital citizenship when completing lessons on E-safety and then showing E-safety in their projects by correctly giving credit to sources.
